Some stories begin in movies, while others start in the simple and unexpected. Mine started in Cabatuan, Isabela, where a hardworking family welcomed a baby boy into the world on October 9, 2006. That baby boy was me - Neil Anthony R. Adame.
My entry into this world was not easy. While I was still inside my mother’s womb, there was a lack of oxygen which made my condition critical. Because of this, I had to be delivered prematurely at 8 months through a cesarean section. I was extremely small as an infant - so small that I was even smaller than a 1-liter bottle of Coke. Despite that fragile beginning, I survived, and that is the first sign that I was meant to keep going in life.
Growing up as a toddler, I was already considered delicate. My family became very protective of me because of my early experience in life. Even at a young age, I was surrounded by care and attention, which shaped the way I was raised.
During my childhood I experienced my earliest childhood incidents I was told about happened when I was around 2 years old. I used to run with my head looking down and my arms behind me whenever I heard the engine of my father’s tricycle. One day, while my fathers engine was turned on and I heard it, I ran like I always do,but I accidentally hit my head on the corner of our doorway. This caused a deep cut on the top left side of my head, and I had to get stitches. I do not really remember it,since I was still a toddler, but I grew up hearing the story from my family, and it became another reason why they became more protective of me.
As a child, life was simple but meaningful. My days were filled with cartoons, DVDs, and bonding with cousins. I was cautious and mostly stayed at home because of my strict and protective family, but still I enjoyed a happy childhood surroundedby loved ones.
One of the biggest influences in my life was my mother, who worked as an OFW for most of my life. Even though she was far away, I always felt her love, and sacrifices. My family worked hard to provide for me, and because of this,I learned the values of respect, patience, and hardwork.
During my childhood,I enjoyed learning how to ride a bicycle, and playing traditional games with my cousins, like tagu-taguan,tumbang preso, and more. At that time, technology was not yet a major part of my life,so I spent more time interacting, and bonding with people around me.
When I entered Elementary school,is when I began discovering more about myself. Around Grade 1, I dreamed of becoming a veterinarian because I loved animals. I was very serious about it back then, and believed it would be my future career, but I guess life had other plans.
Elementary life was both memorable and challenging. I met classmates and teachers who influenced me positively, but I also experienced bullying because I was skinny and small. Despite this,I continued to make friends and enjoyed life
Academically, I was not always disciplined because I did not enjoy reviewing lessons, or before exams. However,I still tried my best whenever needed. More than academics, Elementary taught me discipline, friendship, and responsibility.
When I entered high school, everything changed, Juniot high school felt like a different world. The subjects became harder, the environment became more serious, and fights happen more often at the gate of the school. I had to adjust quickly. I entered a public school named Cabatuan National High School or CNHS for short.
During Grades 7 and 8, I made many more memories with classmates and friends. We laughed, joined activities, and experienced teenage life. It was also during this time that I experienced my first relationship, which affected my focus on studies, and caused my grades to droppeda at times,I also experienced stress and sometimes made poor decisions, such as cutting classes.
Then came the COVID-19 pandemic. Classes suddenly shifted to online and modular learning. Life became repetitive and isolating, and studying became more difficult. I mostly stayed at home,in our community, and social interaction is limited.I also got addicted to gaming on this time, which dropped my grades to 76-79.
Even though it was difficult, the pandemic taught me independence, patience, and adaptability. It also reminded me about the importance of family, health, and human connection.
When senior high school came, I slowly became more serious about my future. I developed a growing interest in technology and computer-related subjects, even though my childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian was still there. Since I got low grades during the pandemic, the only strand I can enroll is General Academic Strand or G.A.S. for short.
One of the most memorable parts of Grade 11 was meeting my circle of friends. There were nine of us in the group, we shared laughter, support, and experiences that made my senior high school life meaningful, and they're still my closest friend until now.
There was also a time when I had disagreements with my parents about what course I should take in college. In the end, even if I still dream to become a Veterinarian, I ultimately chose Bachelors of Science in Information Technology because I also am genuinely interested in technology and programming.
Today, I am currently a college student taking BS Information Technology. College life is more challenging because it requires independence, discipline, and responsibility.
I stayed during my 1st year, 1st semester in Luna, Isabela to atleast make the location closer to my university, which is Isabela State University - Cauayan Campus. However, I eventually returned to Cabatuan because commuting became difficult, especially when it was already past 5 PM. This is also the year I got my first laptop. It helped me a lot in coding, projects, and school activities. Unfortunately, it only lasted until my second year because it broke before our midyear classes.
As an IT student, I experience programming, coding projects, activities, and deadlines. Sometimes the workload becomes stressful, but I continue learning, especially after learning a few things like programming languages (c++,Java, etc.), and parts of a Pc. I know it will help me achieve my goals.
College also taught me the importance of time management and perseverance. There are times when I feel tired, pressured, and emotionally drained, but I always remind myself of my goal - to finish my studies, help my family, and build a better future.
As of now, I am taking midyear classes before becoming a third-year student. My journey is still ongoing, and I know there are still many challenges ahead
Through every struggle, mistake, success, and experience, I have grown stronger and wiser. My family, friends, teachers, and life experiences shaped me into who I am today.
This autobiography is not a story of perfection, but a story of a scrawny kid living in Culing West, Cabatuan, Isabela. No matter where life takes me, I will always remember my journey - from a fragile beginning, childhood memories, family travels to luna, accidents on my childhood, school life, friendships and college struggels. Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, Today is a gift, and that is why it is called a present - Master Oogway.
This is the story of Neil Anthony R. Adame - From a scrawny kid to a person learning more about life.
